Skyliners Frankfurt have signed former NBA guard Ryan Arcidiacono on a one-year contract, the Basketball Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old American brings extensive top-tier experience to the Hessian team, having played 257 games in North America's National Basketball Association during stints with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, and Portland Trail Blazers.
During his career in the NBA, the veteran guard averaged 4.0 points and 1.9 assists per game while posting a 36.9 percent shooting rate from three-point range. Prior to agreeing terms with Frankfurt, Arcidiacono was most recently under contract with Costa Rican outfit Osos de Manatí.
Leadership and championship experience
Skyliners head coach Klaus Perwas welcomed the signing, highlighting the leadership and pedigree the American playmaker brings to the roster.
Perwas stated that Arcidiacono is a proven winner and leader both on and off the court. He emphasized that the guard's experience at the highest levels of the sport, spanning from college championships to the NBA, will provide vital assistance to the team in critical moments throughout the upcoming campaign. The coach added that the club is delighted to welcome a player of such character to Frankfurt.
Arcidiacono expressed enthusiasm about joining the German side for the new season. He stated that he is looking forward to arriving in Frankfurt and getting to work, adding that he hopes to help secure victories for the team and make the city proud.
Roster adjustment in Frankfurt
The move to secure Arcidiacono comes shortly after Skyliners Frankfurt parted ways with fellow American guard Marcus Garrett just a few days ago.
Garrett, who had also been brought in to play in the backcourt, spent only a matter of weeks with the German club after arriving in July. The team confirmed his departure in August, though the Hessian club remained silent regarding the reasons for the sudden split.
Based in Frankfurt, Hesse, the Skyliners compete in the Basketball Bundesliga, the top tier of professional basketball in Germany. The addition of Arcidiacono fills the backcourt vacancy as the team prepares for the new league season.
