Arne Slot has turned down the chance to take over at Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, with the former Liverpool manager committed to finding a top European club role.
The Dutch coach was approached by Al Ahli to replace Matthias Jaissle, who is set to join Newcastle United. Despite being made their top target, Slot will reject the official approach.
Slot was sacked by Liverpool at the end of May, one year after leading the club to the Premier League title. His dismissal followed a troubled season in which Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League and suffered 20 defeats across all competitions. Several key players, including Mohamed Salah, spoke out about the playing style during the campaign.
The review that led to his sacking was led by Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, chief executive of football at Fenway Sports Group.
There has been speculation linking Slot with the Netherlands national team job following Ronald Koeman's departure after the World Cup, but he is understood to be focused on club football for now.
Before joining Liverpool, Slot had won the Eredivisie title and the Dutch Cup with Feyenoord, and guided them to the Conference League final.
