Spain, Great Britain and Germany have completed the qualification lineup for the Davis Cup Finals after winning their respective ties on Sunday.
Playing without top player Carlos Alcaraz, Spain defeated host nation Chile on the clay courts of Santiago to claim the final available berth in the marquee men's team tournament.
The Spanish doubles pair of Jaume Munar and Pedro Martínez sealed the tie on Sunday with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory over Chilean duo Tomás Barrios and Alejandro Tabilo in one hour and 17 minutes at the Anita Lizana Central Court.
Spain was the only visiting team to win its tie during the final qualification round. The six-time Davis Cup champions, who last won the title in 2019, relied on a younger roster in the absence of Alcaraz.
On Saturday, 20-year-old Rafael Jódar, ranked 14th in the world ranking, and 21-year-old Daniel Mérida put Spain ahead 2-0 by winning their individual singles matches against Cristian Garín and Alejandro Tabilo on Santiago's clay surface.
With their victory, Spain joins defending champions Italy, Great Britain, Germany, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Austria and Canada for the final stage. The tournament will take place in Bologna, Italy, from November 24 to 29. The Davis Cup is the premier international team competition in men's tennis, organised annually by the International Tennis Federation.
Great Britain Victory Over Ecuador
Earlier on Sunday, Great Britain ended Ecuador's hopes of qualifying for the final round of the competition for the first time. Playing on an indoor hard court in London, the British team completed a sweep following two singles wins on Saturday.
Doubles partners Henry Patten and Neal Skupski secured the decisive victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Ecuadorian pair Diego Hidalgo and Gonzalo Escobar. Patten, ranked number one in the world doubles rankings, and Skupski, ranked third, converted a single service break in the opening set against Hidalgo and Escobar, who are ranked 91st and 93rd respectively.
In the second set, the British pair broke service in the ninth game before serving out the match to seal the tie. The victory sends Great Britain to the Davis Cup Finals for the first time since 2023.
German Victory Led by Zverev
In Halle, Germany, host nation Germany earned its place in the finals by overcoming Croatia on a fast court surface. The German doubles team of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz won 7-5, 6-2 to give Germany a 2-1 advantage in the tie.
Following the doubles match, Krawietz said that it was probably their best doubles match in the Davis Cup, adding that everything went perfectly from start to finish and the atmosphere was fantastic.
Alexander Zverev then sealed Germany's qualification by defeating Croatian opponent Dino Prizmic, ranked 103rd in the world, by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Zverev, who recently won both the US Open and Roland Garros, experienced few difficulties during the match.
Germany will now head to Bologna seeking its first Davis Cup championship since 1993. Roland Garros, also known as the French Open, is played on clay in Paris, while the US Open takes place on hard courts in New York.
Argentina Comeback in Neuquén
In Neuquén, Argentina, the host nation secured its return to the 2027 Davis Cup Finals qualifiers by defeating Turkey 3-1 on a hard court surface. Argentina had built a 2-0 lead on Saturday before facing a setback in the Sunday doubles rubber.
Guido Andreozzi and Andrés Molteni dropped the doubles match 6-4, 6-4 to Turkish duo Arda Azkara and Yanki Erel. Francisco Cerúndolo, the highest-ranked Latin American player at 23rd in the world, then rescued Argentina by overpowering Mert Alkaya, ranked 296th, with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in 48 minutes.
Other Davis Cup Results
In other World Group matches, South Korea made history by becoming the first Asian nation to qualify for the Final Eight stage of the Davis Cup. Meanwhile, the Czech Republic earned its spot in the final stage by eliminating the United States from the competition.
