Greek football club owners have approved a proposal by Vangelis Marinakis to commission a feasibility study on centralized television rights management. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Stoiximan Super League Board of Directors on September 22, 2026, where team executives gathered to discuss measures aimed at boosting the competitiveness of the championship through shared broadcasting revenues.
Under the proposal passed by the league, specialized consulting firm Deloitte will analyze options for collective television rights distribution. The study will evaluate how a joint management model could increase revenues for all participating clubs and benefit Greek football as a whole.
Competing proposals at league summit
The board evaluated two distinct proposals during the session. While the plan submitted by Marinakis secured total support, an alternative proposal presented by league president and Panathinaikos FC owner Giannis Alafouzos was rejected.
Alafouzos had proposed dividing all television revenues into 14 equal portions across every club in the division. That option was turned down following opposition from major clubs, including PAOK FC, AEK Athens FC, and Olympiacos FC.
Commitment to existing contracts
Alongside the vote on the Deloitte study, all Super League clubs clarified that they will continue to honor their active individual broadcasting contracts. Existing television deals will remain in force until the framework for centralized rights management is fully resolved.

The Stoiximan Super League is the top professional football competition in Greece, comprising 14 member clubs. Under current arrangements, clubs negotiate their television rights independently, resulting in significant income differences between the largest clubs and smaller teams.
Centralized TV rights management is a collective bargaining structure used by major European football leagues, where broadcasting rights are packaged and sold as a single entity. Revenue is then redistributed among member teams according to agreed formulas to promote competitive balance.
