SV Wehen Wiesbaden lost 3-1 at home to Preußen Münster on Saturday in their opening match of the 3. Liga season. An individual blunder and a disputed penalty decision cost the home side points against the team relegated from the 2. Bundesliga.
Both teams needed a few minutes to settle into the game before the match picked up speed after nearly 20 minutes. Montell Ndikom, who entered as a substitute for Mees in the 16th minute, gave Münster the lead in the 27th minute after stealing the ball from SVWW goalkeeper Florian Stritzel's feet.
Stritzel stopped a strong chance for Münster three minutes later to keep Wiesbaden in the match. The home side responded in the 37th minute when striker Moritz Flotho converted a penalty to tie the score at 1-1. Sinan Karweina missed another opportunity for Wiesbaden in the 40th minute, leaving the teams level at the break.
Disputed penalty decision
Wiesbaden took control of play after halftime and created several half-chances, but Münster retook the lead. Wiesbaden player Max Brandt won the ball but lost possession and pulled his opponent's shirt slightly. Ndikom converted the resulting penalty in the 78th minute to put the visitors ahead 2-1.
Wiesbaden coach Daniel Scherning criticized the penalty decision after viewing television replays, stating the incident was a clear dive. Scherning said it was never a penalty and argued the referee should have shown a yellow card instead.
Marvin Schulz, who replaced Johansson in the 90th minute, sealed Münster's victory with a third goal in the second minute of stoppage time. Referee Nouhoum from Fürstenfeldbruck officiated the match before 4,535 spectators in Wiesbaden.
Yellow cards were issued to Gillekens, Janitzek, Hercher, and Brandt for Wiesbaden. Adeh, Preißinger, and Ndikom received yellow cards for Münster.
