Tropical storm floods Acapulco tennis complex, home of ATP tournament

The Acapulco tennis complex was flooded after Hurricane John hit the Mexican coast, reports the Opencourt.ca portal.

As Reuters reports, citing local authorities, more than 95 cm of rain fell in a few days in the state of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located. Last year, the resort was damaged after Hurricane Otis, but then the state received 14 inches of rain.

The complex’s hard courts are scheduled to host the ATP 500 tournament from February 24 to March 1, 2025. In early September, organizers confirmed participation in the tournament Alexandra Zvereva from Germany, Norwegian Casper Ruud Danish Rune Holgera the Americans Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton, as well as the Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

The last two seasons the tournament was won by Australian Alex de Minaur. This year, the prize money for the Acapulco competition was $2.2 million.
