President Donald Trump, 80, shared video Sunday of himself winning the club and senior club championships at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, crediting the victory to his own skill.
"The Winning Shot in the Bedminster Club Championship!" Trump wrote on social media alongside footage of him lifting his ball to within a few feet of the pin. "Thank you very much to all of those who participated."
Trump carded a score of 70 on Sunday. That total cannot match the 34 that Kim Jong-il reportedly claimed in 1994, but Trump was just as immodest about his own round.
"I won with a score of 70, and am so honored in that, unlike the rest of the field, I'm given very little time to practice, because I'm focused on many other things," he wrote. "It's called TALENT, and I have it, and they don't!"
Bedminster's tournament history
Par at Bedminster is set at 72, meaning Trump's 70 was two strokes under par to secure the double win. The score comes a year after the White House published a scorecard claiming Trump shot a 3-under 69 at the same annual tournament in 2025, when he officially won by ten strokes.
Bedminster was originally set to host the 2022 PGA Championship, but the tour pulled the event after the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol. The course has since hosted the LIV Golf Tour for several events, though it remains unclear whether LIV will keep paying to use Trump's courses now that the tour has been stripped of its funding by Saudi Arabia.
Golf glove draws criticism
Trump was seen visiting troops during his trip to New Jersey, and observers noted he was still wearing his golf glove while greeting military personnel. "With his golf glove on. How disrespectful," one X user wrote in response to a video. Another wrote, "He wears his golf shoes and driving glove wherever he goes, I'm guessing....???"
Trump has repeatedly touted his golf game, once declaring, "I've played a lot, and I've played well. There are very few people who can beat me in golf." Commentator Ron Filipkowski wrote on August 2, 2026, that Trump "allegedly just won his 43rd Club Championship today at one of his courses."
Sportswriter Rick Reilly, who wrote a book on Trump's golf habits, has previously questioned the legitimacy of his club championship wins, once saying, "When it comes to cheating, he's an 11 on a scale of one to 10."
Iran strikes context
Trump's round came shortly after he called off strikes on Iran. He said Saturday on Truth Social that he remained "locked and loaded" to launch an attack but had paused it in hopes of reaching a peace deal, after threatening "power not seen since World War II." Sources told Axios that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged Trump to defuse the situation, following days of tit-for-tat threats between the White House and Tehran.
