The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) wants to create international tournaments that would compete with events run by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Bloomberg reported.
UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) have begun discussing organizing their own international football competitions to rival those run by FIFA. All three organizations want to give players the chance to compete in tournaments they believe would be free of any violations.
Joint Statement Against Infantino
UEFA, the AFC and CONCACAF earlier issued a joint statement accusing FIFA president Gianni Infantino of undermining trust. The statement said that when a person places himself above the collective, belief in his authority is undermined.
The leaders of the organizations also referred to a recent attempt by Infantino to sell part of the rights to host the football World Cup to private investors. The statement said there was no understanding that the attempt to sell a stake was a profound error of judgment, calling it not merely a procedural miscalculation but a fundamental breach of trust in the institutions FIFA is meant to serve.
