A coalition led by UEFA, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation is preparing coordinated action against FIFA president Gianni Infantino, according to the Times, aiming to remove him from the leadership of world football's governing body.
The confederations are considering pressuring Infantino if he insists on seeking a new term in the March elections, the report said.
Boycott and rival tournaments considered
Options reportedly on the table include an organized governance boycott, with confederations skipping FIFA Council and committee meetings and refusing to ratify decisions. The creation of new international tournaments outside FIFA is also being examined if there is no change in leadership.
Tensions rose after FIFA's plan for a company called FIFA Forward Enterprises was revealed, which would have transferred a share of commercial rights from FIFA competitions to private investors. The plan prompted several national federations, including England's FA and the Welsh Football Association, to withdraw support for Infantino's 2027-2031 candidacy, citing concerns over governance, transparency and decision-making at FIFA.
UEFA sends legal warning
UEFA sent FIFA a formal legal warning saying it is considering judicial and arbitration action, and asked FIFA to preserve documents related to the Forward Enterprises plan. The letter named senior officials including Infantino, secretary general Mattias Grafstrom and Arsene Wenger.
Wenger has reportedly told close associates he does not intend to leave FIFA, believing his work on football development, particularly academies, remains important.
