Former Greece international defender Vangelis Moras has praised the Greece national football team on the broadcast program The Football Show by Stoiximan following significant victories against Serbia and Germany, highlighting a clear shift in tactical adaptability.
Speaking on the protothema.gr show, the current Athens Kallithea manager stated that the biggest change in the national squad is its newly acquired ability to adjust to the demands of each specific match rather than focusing solely on playing attractive football.
Moras explained that the difference from the national team supporters were accustomed to seeing was precisely what everyone had wanted to observe. He noted that in previous years, the team would enter the pitch, play aesthetically pleasing football, and earn admiration, but might ultimately fail to secure a victory. Spectators witnessed a distinct approach in recent fixtures, particularly during the performance against Germany.
Adaptability and tactical maturity
Moras, who earned 27 senior caps for Greece during his playing career, represented his country at major international tournaments including the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. His club career included extensive spells in top European competitions, notably in Italian football with Bologna and Hellas Verona.
At the management level, Moras currently leads Athens Kallithea FC, a club based in the Athenian suburb of Kallithea that competes in Greek professional football. Reflecting on the national team's development, he stressed that an essential component of international success is fostering a positive squad environment and creating unity among players.
He emphasized that Greek players must maintain this collective spirit as a core characteristic. He added that when Greek footballers form a close unit like a family in a healthy atmosphere, they possess the capability to achieve landmark victories, as demonstrated in the result against Germany.
Team unity and player quality
The former central defender also pointed out that the current Greece national team features players with genuine individual quality and strong personality. He stated that the squad now possesses players who can make the difference during high-stakes international encounters.
The Hellenic Football Federation, which governs the Greece national team, achieved its most famous milestone by winning UEFA Euro 2004. In recent international fixtures, victories over major European opponents such as Serbia and Germany have signaled a competitive resurgence for the national side.

Addressing the relationship between fans and the national squad, Moras noted that public support has not always been seamless, recalling past periods marked by intense criticism from spectators.
He observed that Greek players understand that public backing is not always guaranteed. However, he remarked that major team achievements sometimes follow moments when the squad faces hostility from the crowd.
Recalling his own experience during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign against Ukraine, Moras remembered hearing whistles and jeers from supporters in the stands. While expressing hope for a shift in public philosophy surrounding the national team, he acknowledged that fan attitudes do not change easily.
