Russian swimmer Vladimir Muratov finished 15th in the five-kilometer open water event at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris on Wednesday, August 5. Match TV reported that Muratov was the top Russian competitor in the race, which was won by Florian Wellbrock of Germany.
Muratov swallowed water from the Seine River during the competition. He told Match TV that the river water was ordinary fresh water without any taste, comparing it to tap water. He suggested that it might be treated with chemicals, adding that it resembled regular pool water without chlorine.
Competition and conditions
The swimmer also commented on the strong competition at the tournament. Muratov said that the intense field was positive because it allowed him to gain significantly more experience, noting that race speeds were higher.
