Two-time Olympic medalist Martins Dukurs announces his retirement

Latvian skeleton Martins Dukurs announced his retirement as a professional athlete.

I made an emotional but logical decision. I experienced tough losses, loud wins, indescribable excitement and I got used to it again and again. The feeling that caused the addiction cannot be dispelled, I realize that I will miss the competition. It’s hard when you realize that you are no longer able to show quality interaction, it makes you think about the logical end (career).

I have always tried not to give up and teach this to others, but realized that sometimes you have to stop to take on new challenges in life, Dukurs, 38, wrote on the social network .

Dukurs is a double Olympic silver medalist (2010, 2014), six-time world champion, 12-time European champion, record holder for the number of overall World Cup victories. He was repeatedly recognized as the best athlete of the year in Latvia and received the country’s state awards.
