Tournament Format and Qualification System
Under the revised Champions League format introduced by European governing body UEFA, all 36 qualified teams compete in a single league table during the opening phase. Each team plays eight matches against eight different opponents, split evenly between four home fixtures and four away matches.
The top eight teams at the end of the League Phase qualify automatically for the round of 16. Teams finishing from ninth to 24th place advance to a two-legged play-off round to compete for the remaining eight round of 16 berths, while teams finishing 25th or lower are eliminated.
