Alan Brazil will return to talkSPORT radio on Wednesday, just a few months after undergoing a life-saving liver transplant. The 67-year-old Scot has been off air for almost four months and will resume his regular Breakfast Show alongside former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor.
Brazil revealed in June that he had undergone the surgery, disclosing that he was on the operating table for eight hours and that his heart had stopped before restarting itself.
He shared the update in a video posted on social media on Monday, appearing relaxed as he petted his dog. "Hugo, say hello," Brazil said, before adding: "I'm looking forward to Wednesday. Wednesday at 6am - talkSPORT, Brazil's back. Looking forward to it."
Recovery in Suffolk
Brazil said he had enjoyed "a great break here in Suffolk," adding the weather had been "sensational" although he was not allowed too much time in the sun. He said he had not enjoyed the World Cup, telling viewers: "I didn't like all the commercialisation and of course we're hearing all about it now, aren't we?"
His dog Hugo then jumped off the sofa mid-video, prompting Brazil to joke: "There you go, I'm just about to talk about Gabby (Agbonlahor) and Hugo's p***ed off." He confirmed he and Agbonlahor would present together from just after 6am on Wednesday, would take Thursday off for "a couple of treatments," and would return again on Friday. He said he had spoken to Ray Parlour the previous day, who he described as enjoying Sunday lunch at "some swanky restaurant" in Essex.
Voice still improving
Brazil said he had missed his colleagues over the past three months. "I feel my voice and everything is beginning to improve week after week," he said. "I'm still not there yet, nowhere near - it'll take another three, four, maybe six months but I'm definitely a lot better." He added that he had bought season tickets for Ipswich Town and planned to spend much of his time at Portman Road.
Premier League predictions
Brazil gave his verdict on the coming Premier League season, calling Arsenal the "team to beat" and tipping Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham to have strong campaigns. He also said fellow talkSPORT regular Ally McCoist was enjoying a "much-deserved" break after working as a pundit throughout the World Cup.
He closed the video by saying: "Anyway, it's great to be back, I feel good. I'm looking forward to Wednesday morning, just after six o'clock with Gabby Agbonlahor on talkSPORT. We'll get it going again!"
Career background
Brazil has presented the Breakfast Show since talkSPORT launched in 2000, cutting back his hours in 2020. In March he missed presenting duties during the final two days of the Cheltenham Festival, and he also had a spell off air in January because of illness.
Brazil began his football career at Ipswich Town in 1976 and later played for Tottenham and Manchester United in the 1980s. He won 13 caps for Scotland, representing the country at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, before back issues affected the end of his playing career.
