Manager of the reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev expressed doubts that the UFC picked the right opponent for the Dagestani fighter in his next fight.
Makhachev is scheduled to play his next fight on February 11 in Australia against Alexander Volkanovski.
“I think the UFC made a mistake scheduling this fight because I think it should have been Benil Dariush. I really think so. I respect Volkanovski, but fighting Islam right now is a mistake. The only person who can give him a fight in the lightweight division is Dariush. I don’t think the fight with Volkanovski is competitive,” Ali Abdelaziz said in an interview with MMA Underground.
Makhachev has won 23 career victories with one loss. Brazilian Dariush is on an eight-game winning streak. His last defeat dates back to March 2018.
