The head-to-head fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place in less than a month
British boxer, former sparring partner of Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury Jordan Thompson commented on the upcoming fight between the Ukrainian and the “Gypsy King” for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.
“Two great talents will meet. That’s why everyone is talking about this fight. The guys have a lot in common. IQ means very smart fighters. Guys are always relaxed and reserved. You also have to note their footwork, but the main thing is that they know how to hit and not miss back.”
“Fury can make you do what he wants. This is something special. He has his own method for every move his opponent makes and again, he’s very, very adaptable.”
“As for Usyk, we all know that he is phenomenal. A very good tactician and an excellent boxer. But Fury, no matter what is put in front of him, he will adapt to it. He’ll come up with something to win.”
The unification fight between Usik and Fury will take place on May 18. MEGOGO became the official broadcaster of the event for Ukrainian viewers.
The list of other fights that will take place as part of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia is also known. Among them is the fight between Ukrainian Daniel Lapin and Portuguese Octavio Pudivitra for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title.
The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
Suleiman also presented a special WBC belt for which Usyk and Fury will fight. Its design uses the colors of the Ukrainian and British flags. Pope Francis has already blessed the World Boxing Council belt that will be on the line in the title fight.
