According to Arnold, the contract with Top Rank obliges the company to organize a fight for him for the world champion belt
Ukrainian featherweight boxer Arnold Khegai (21-1-1, 13 KO) commented on his upcoming fight with the Colombian Belmar Preciado (22-7, 13 KOs) and shared his plans for a championship fight in the near future.
“I’m glad that I’m returning to box in the USA, especially as a Top Rank boxer, I’m glad that I signed a contract with them. On August 10, I want to show beautiful boxing and make a successful debut on the show. I expect big fights in the future. The contract with Top Rank obliges the company to make me fight for the world champion belt.”
“The fight with Preciado is the next step towards a fight for the world title. I asked the organizers for a more serious opponent, but they gave me someone who agreed to box with me. But I am not looking behind the Colombian’s back, I will be ready for him, as well as for other fights, 100%.”
“I am number one in the WBO rankings and 12th in the IBF rankings, and the champions in both versions are Top Rank boxers Rafael Espinosa and Luiz Lopez. Therefore, in addition to the chance to box for the WBO title, I also have a chance to fight for the IBF belt. Since I am top of the WBO rankings, I hope that I will box Espinosa. But in general, I’m ready to box for both one and the other belt.”
“As for Espinosa, he is a good boxer. Rafael is tall, awkward due to his height, and has a punch. He also has character, which he showed in the fight with Robeisy Ramirez, from whom he took the title.”
Recall that it was recently announced that the 32-year-old Ukrainian will have his next fight with Colombian Preciado. The fight will take place on August 10 in Albuquerque, USA, as part of the Top Rank Boxing show. The main event of the evening will be the defense of the IBF featherweight title by Mexican Luis Lopez against American Angelo Leo, former WBO champion in the same category.
Khegai will be fighting for the first time as a Top Rank fighter. Arnold signed a contract with the promotional company in April.
In his last fight, the Ukrainian, who leads the WBO featherweight rankings, defeated Spaniard Jon Martinez in January. Khegai stopped his opponent by technical knockout in the third round.
