Charlie Woods confronted a fan during a playoff at the 2026 U.S. Junior Championship on Wednesday after a camera shutter disrupted his shot. The 17-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods saw his tournament run at Saucon Valley Country Club come to an end following the incident.
Woods finished two days of action at five over par, placing him in a 14-for-2 playoff for the final two spots in the 64-person match-play bracket. On the par-five first hole, after two rivals made birdie, Woods attempted to reach the green in two from 270 yards out but landed 25 yards short.
As Woods took his backswing for his third shot, a fan snapped a photo with an audible shutter click. A viral video showed Woods turning toward the spectator and asking, "Really, dude?"
In the video, another person behind the camera said, "Right in his swing." Woods failed to convert his chip for birdie, carding a bogey that eliminated him as Eli Wessel of Indianapolis and Hudson Kutchma of Westfield, Indiana secured the final match-play berths.
Hot Mic Incident And Qualifying Struggles
The playoff loss came one day after another viral video, posted by Michael Schmittinger Jr., captured Woods screaming "Oh, f*** you" following his tee shot on the par-three 11th hole. Woods went on to make par on that hole despite the outburst.
The events at Saucon Valley follow another setback last week, when Woods attempted to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship, the top annual tournament for American amateur golfers. Playing at Ohio State University's Scarlet Course, Woods shot a five-over 76 to miss qualifying by six shots, according to Golf Digest, as 13 qualifiers and two alternates advanced from the site.
Woods, who has committed to play for Florida State University after graduating high school next year, has struggled to find consistency this season. Across seven ranked events, his best result was a 19th-place finish at the Junior Orange Bowl International in January, representing his only top-25 finish of the year.
