Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg are the two teams sitting top of the Bundesliga table after matchday three, both unbeaten with three wins from three games.
That will not change even if Bayern Munich beat newly promoted SV Elversberg on Sunday, September 13. The defending champions have one win and one draw from two games, while Dortmund and Freiburg have already made it three wins out of three.
Dortmund, without Konstantinos Karetsas in the squad, comfortably beat SC Paderborn 07 3-0, with a goal from Silva and two from Enmetsa. The second of Enmetsa's goals came from an eye-catching overhead kick.
Freiburg took Borussia Monchengladbach apart, running out 5-0 winners. Igor Matanovic scored twice and moved to the top of the club's all-time scoring list, with 55 league goals for Freiburg.
Hoffenheim win before facing OFI in the Europa League
TSG Hoffenheim, who will be OFI Crete's first opponents in the League Phase of the Europa League on Thursday, September 17 at 19:45, beat VfB Stuttgart 2-1. Adam Hlozek scored both Hoffenheim goals, in the 13th and 67th minutes, in what was the club's first win of the season.
Hoffenheim coach Christian Ilzer set his side up in a 4-1-4-1 formation with Baumann in goal, Tsufal (replaced by Gendrey in the 69th minute), Kabak, Haidari and Rotz across the back, Avdullahu holding, Konte (replaced by Wimmer, 55th minute), Hlozek (replaced by Kramaric, 82nd minute), Berger and Dagim in midfield, and Leberle (replaced by Aslani, 83rd minute) up front.
Augsburg denied win in seven-goal draw with Leverkusen
FC Augsburg suffered their first dropped points of the season in an eventful match against Bayer Leverkusen. Leverkusen went ahead first, but two goals from Michael Gregoritsch, in the 50th and 55th minutes, put the home side 2-1 up. Patrik Schick equalised with a backheel in the 89th minute to make it 2-2.
Atubolu sets Bundesliga penalty-save record
Eintracht Frankfurt won 3-1 away at FSV Mainz 05. Can Uzun scored twice and Jonathan Burkardt added another, but the standout performer for the Frankfurt side was goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, who saved a penalty from Nadiem Amiri in the 31st minute.
The save gave Atubolu a Bundesliga record of six consecutive saved penalties.
