The Kansas City Chiefs are re-signing defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah on a one-year deal, according to ESPN. The 32-year-old free agent returns to Kansas City six years after winning a Super Bowl with the team, following a 2025 season spent with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Kansas City is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 campaign when the team missed out on the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach have made several significant moves this offseason, including re-signing Travis Kelce and acquiring Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker.
Ogbah played alongside Patrick Mahomes and Kelce during the 2019 season, helping Reid's side reach the postseason. However, the Nigerian defensive end missed the Chiefs' playoff run to the Super Bowl after suffering a torn pectoral.

Between his stints in Kansas City and Jacksonville, Ogbah spent five seasons with the Miami Dolphins. The 32-year-old was a second-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2016, having played college football at Oklahoma State.

Meanwhile, Reid has hinted NFL retirement is on the horizon after being confronted with worries about who might eventually replace Mahomes. The 68-year-old head coach signed a five-year, $100 million extension as Chiefs head coach in April 2024. While he enters the new season determined to lead the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl, finding a new quarterback is not on his mind.
Mahomes, 30, is entering his tenth season in the NFL. When asked on Monday about what his future holds, Reid replied: "I don't worry about it because he'll be here a lot longer than I am." The Chiefs also made quarterback moves over the offseason, drafting Garrett Nussmeier from LSU in the seventh round and trading for Justin Fields from the New York Jets.
