FC Barcelona is close to reaching an agreement with Manchester City to sign Spanish midfielder Rodri after preparing an improved final transfer proposal, according to Catalan newspaper Sport. Barcelona initially offered around 40 million euros, but Manchester City rejected the bid and expected at least 30 million euros more.
Barcelona is now prepared to submit a final proposal of 60 million or 65 million euros, plus around 5 million euros in variables. The base fee matches the sum accepted during previous negotiations between Manchester City and Real Madrid. Manchester City had previously sought about 10 million euros more, but 70 million euros has been set as the ceiling for negotiations.

Sport reported that continuous negotiations between both clubs have taken place over recent days, with figures drawing closer and indicating that the transaction could close this week. Rodri has already agreed to terms with his potential new employer. Landing the midfielder would secure the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner and world top defensive midfielder while beating Real Madrid, who were the first club to show interest in the Spaniard.

Rodri lifted the World Cup trophy less than a month ago and was named tournament MVP, after previously leading Spain to the Euro title in 2024. His performances for national team and club have increased his transfer valuation.
During seven years at Manchester City, Rodri played 298 matches, scoring 28 goals and providing 32 assists. His statistics were impacted by a torn anterior cruciate ligament and right knee meniscus damage sustained in September 2024, which kept him out of action for over seven months.
