Monaco, coached by Filipe Luís, beat Liverpool 3-2 at Anfield in Liverpool, England, on Sunday, August 9, coming back from two goals down in a preseason friendly.
Filipe Luís, who celebrated his birthday on the day of the match, saw his side fall behind 2-0 before rallying to win away from home.
Liverpool started strongly. Swedish forward Alexander Isak opened the scoring 15 minutes into the first half after a good move by the Reds. Soon after, German midfielder Florian Wirtz scored a second goal following a scramble in the box, extending England side's lead.
Monaco responded before halftime. Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin converted a penalty to cut the deficit to 2-1 and bring his side back into the game.
Monaco's comeback
In the second half, Monaco kept up the pressure in search of an equalizer. Danish forward Mika Biereth scored off his own rebound ten minutes into the second half, leveling the match at 2-2.
Monaco sealed the win in the closing minutes. In the 42nd minute of the second half, German forward Paris Brunner headed in a corner kick to make it 3-2, completing the comeback at Anfield.

Liverpool now turn their attention to the start of the 2026/2027 Premier League season. The Reds will face Newcastle away on Sunday, August 23, at 12:30 p.m. Brasília time.
Monaco still have one more match before official competition begins. Filipe Luís's side will play Coventry City on Friday, August 14, at 3 p.m., also in England, as part of their preparation.
