Kostas Tsimikas started for Liverpool as the club lost 3-2 to Monaco in a pre-season friendly at Anfield on Sunday. The match was Andoni Iraola's first in charge of Liverpool at Anfield.
The Greek international left back was in Iraola's starting eleven for the game, which drew a crowd of 60,216. Tsimikas played until the 60th minute, when he was replaced by Kerkez.
Liverpool's early two-goal lead
Liverpool went 2-0 ahead through Isak in the 16th minute and Fritz in the 29th. Liverpool's own social media account later cast doubt on the second goal, posting that the goal was scored by Wirtz, adding "we think" alongside a thinking-face emoji to signal the uncertainty over who had actually got the final touch. During the game the club also posted a photo of a player on target with the caption "Alex on target."
Second-half changes and Monaco's comeback
Liverpool made substitutions in the second half of the friendly. Monaco fought back to score three goals and beat Liverpool 3-2.
Tribute before kickoff
Before the match, a period of applause was held at Anfield in memory of Kevin Keegan.
Liverpool are next in action the following weekend, when they play Como.
