Athletistic/ Football. As part of qualifying for Euro 2024, the Romanian national team will host Belarus. Switzerland will face Israel in the side game.

Romania – Belarus

After the first round of the Group I European qualifiers, the opponents of the next match in Bucharest are at different poles of the classification. The Romanians won, as expected, victory in Andorra la Vella on Saturday, putting in as much effort as necessary. The first goal against the “dwarfs” of the wards of Edward Jordanescu had in the 35th minute, doubled the advantage at the start of the second half, and after the elimination of Andorra in the 61st minute, they calmly carried three point game. Belarus played their home game against Switzerland in the Serbian city of Novi Sad. From the first minutes of the meeting began to affect the class difference between the rivals “the size of the abyss”. Already in the first half hour of the match, Steffen scored three goals against Kudravets, and in the second half, Xhaka and Amduni scored the final victory for the Swiss with a score of 5:0. Ahead of the rivals’ meeting in Bucharest, the bookmakers determined the home side to be the favourites, offering a coefficient of 1.38 for their victory. The Romanian national team in 2021 failed to qualify for the World Championship, taking only third place in Group J after Germany and North Macedonia. Last year, already under the leadership of Jordanescu, the Romanian national team suffered another setback. In the third group of League B of the Nations League, the team took last place, scoring the same point with Montenegro and only one point behind Finland. It should be noted that in September the Romanians showed clear progress compared to the meetings in June, garnering four points in two matches. The Belarusian national team has become one of the worst teams in Europe in recent years. In the qualification for the world championship in 2021, the Belarusian team finished last in one of the weakest qualifying groups, even ahead of Estonia. The team’s failures continued in 2022, when in the same company with Slovakia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, they could not win once, flying to League D to teams the level of Gibraltar and San Marino. The hosts have a unique opportunity to start the qualifying tournament with two wins and are in good spirits to prepare for matches with direct competitors. The Belarusian national team is a convenient opponent to realize such ambitions.

Switzerland – Israel

The national teams of Switzerland and Israel are preparing for a personal meeting within the framework of the European qualification in a different atmosphere. The hosts of the next game traveled to Serbia on Saturday, where they played against the Belarusian national team. Already from the fourth minute of the match, the Swiss began to “throw” goals at the opponents’ goalkeeper, which led to a final victory with the score 5:0. For Switzerland, which has been making rapid progress in recent years, the game against Belarus can be called training with increased responsibility. The Israeli team on the same day at home in the status of favorites took Kosovo. In the 36th minute, the Israelis scored an own goal and in the 49th minute they almost suffered a second shock, but the referee did not count Rashica’s goal. Minutes later, Alon Hazan’s quarters equalized, ultimately scoring the game’s final goal. Ahead of the Geneva encounter, the bookmakers determined the hosts as favourites, offering a coefficient of 1.35 for their victory. Switzerland shone in its group at the world championship by becoming a participant in the 1/8 finals thanks to a victory in the final against Serbia. In the playoffs, the Yakin team suffered a terrible defeat against Portugal, but completed the minimum task, which allowed the federation to keep the coach in office. The Swiss have played in the top flight in all three Nations League draws, and in 2022 they confirmed that right in the same group with the already mentioned Spain and Portugal. Wards Alon Hazan in the selection for the world championship turned out to be quite good, surpassing only Scotland and Denmark. The scourge of the Israeli team was defensive play, which resulted in an average of two goals conceded per game. At the same time, Israel’s successes in the League of Nations are systematic. The Israelis played the first draw of the tournament in League C, the next two – in League B, and the next will start in League A – the company of the strongest teams in Europe. Last year, the Israel team took full advantage of Russia’s disqualification and overtook Iceland and Albania in the group. All four fights between Israel and Switzerland over the past 20 years have ended in a draw. However, at the moment, the host class of the upcoming meeting is far superior to the guest class, so we can safely wait for their confident victory.
