Athletistic / Football. The Norwegian Football Association is set to abandon the use of video assistant referees (VAR).
According to TV2.no, this issue will be discussed at the association’s football congress in March 2025. If the majority votes in favour of abolition, the VAR system will not be used in all competitions under the organisation’s auspices.
A working group will be set up in August 2024 to study the advantages and disadvantages of VAR in Norwegian football. The group will consist of representatives from the club, fans, players, coaches and referees.
Norwegian fans have long opposed the use of VAR, criticising it for its lack of transparency and constant delays.
In February 2024, the Premier League had the idea of removing VAR. But at the general meeting, the majority of clubs supported maintaining the video refereeing system.
