Kievans will play the return match with Rangers in a week
Mentor of Kyiv Dynamo Alexander Shovkovskiy commented on the draw with Rangers (1:1) in the first match of the third qualifying round Champions League 2024/25
“Of course, we are disappointed that we missed out on a last-minute win. At the same time, we understood that the fate of our match would be decided in Glasgow. We only played the first half. The team will prepare for the second half through the Ukrainian championship match that we will play on August 9.”
“Two teams played football, one tried to hold on to the result, counting on quick counterattacks. And we had opportunities for this, especially since the main threat was from the opponent’s flank attacks. We should have acted more confidently in certain moments of the match, but we made mistakes. We will watch the video and figure it out. The insufficient number of matches of such a high level is certainly a negative lesson for us.”
“No matter what stadium the game is played in, most of the fans will be rooting for your team. Of course, support plays a big role, and I want to thank all the fans who came to support our team today and did everything possible to make us feel almost like home.”
“The upcoming match with Veres in the UPL? I haven’t thought about it yet, but I can say that we will certainly have a certain rotation in the squad. Especially since the trip to Rivne will take us a lot of time – about eight hours there and back.”
Andriy Yarmolenko scored for the Kyiv club, while Cyril Dessers scored for the Scots. The return match will be held in Glasgow on August 13.
If the Kyivans beat Rangers, they will face the winner of the Salzburg-Twente match in the playoff round for a place in the overall stage. Oleksandr Shovkovskiy’s team is competing in the League Path.
