Forward for the Spanish women’s national team and Mexican Tigres Jennifer Hermoso received Socrates Trophy during the awards ceremony Ballon d’Or 2024.
The trophy is awarded for social and humanitarian activities outside of football. Hermoso was awarded for her contribution to the development of women’s football and the fight against sexual violence.
Recall that Hennifer was involved in a scandal with the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales. The head of the RFEF kissed Hermoso on the lips during the medal ceremony at the 2023 World Cup. The athlete publicly stated that she did not consent to the kiss. As a result, Rubiales left his post and was later arrested on charges of corruption.
The awards ceremony for the 2024 Ballon d’Or winners takes place today, October 28. The traditional venue for the event is the Chatelet Theater in Paris.
