UEFA chief says he is confident Spain and Portugal will win the fight for the right to host the 2030 World Cup

UEFA President Alexandre Ceferin expressed his confidence that Spain and Portugal would be eligible to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The head of the organization said so during the opening of the international Football Talks congress in Lisbon on Monday. Spain and Portugal signed an agreement to submit a joint application for the right to host the tournament in 2020 and officially announced it in June.

— I am sure that the 2030 World Cup will take place in Spain and Portugal. This bid is a winner and we will do our best to help two countries that are passionate about football to live and breathe it and have good infrastructure,” Čeferina told Reuters.

Earlier, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay announced that they would submit a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup. Morocco also announced this intention, noting that it could join forces with Saudi Arabia and Egypt. According to the media, China could also apply.

The host of the 2030 World Cup will be elected at the FIFA Congress in May 2024.

The 2022 World Cup will be held from November 20 to December 18 in Qatar, the 2026 World Cup will be hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada.
