At the Spanish Grand Prix, Aston Martin brought an updated car that resembles Red Bull Racing vehicles. However, the novelty did not help to significantly change the team’s results – Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll failed to reach the second session in qualifying.
Sebastian Vettel (16th): “We look stronger in training and I thought we could do better in qualifying. During the day, however, I had balance problems: strong oversteer prevented me from cornering quickly without losing control of the rear axle of the car.
However, the team has done a fantastic job getting the two new cars ready for this race – everyone has put in a tremendous effort. They have not yet seen the reward for their work, but I am sure everything is in the offing.
Tomorrow is a new day and we will attack with all our strength. Starting from last position won’t help, but I think we can catch up.”
Lance Walk (18th): “Disappointing result. All weekend I have had problems with the balance of the car. You can’t lap fast if you’re not comfortable driving. We just started with the updated car, so we need to understand the reasons for the current lack of speed and think about how we can improve by changing the settings.
Now it’s time to focus on the race. Apparently it gets very hot so you have to keep an eye on the condition of the rubber. With a good strategy it may be possible to win back positions. We shall see”.
Mike KrakTeam Principal: “Of course we are disappointed with today’s qualifying, given that in the previous two Grands Prix one of our riders reached the final.
Due to the high temperature we had problems with oversteer and traction. We have a lot of work to do in the coming hours to improve our chances of getting points in tomorrow’s race.”
