Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko commented on Lewis Hamilton’s impending move from Mercedes to Ferrari and suggested why the seven-time world champion decided to make the move.
Helmut Marko: “Lewis’ move to Ferrari is the best thing that can happen in Formula 1 at the moment. There are two good reasons for this decision: interest in Ferrari and the fact that Hamilton no longer has confidence in Mercedes.
I think his transfer will put pressure on the friendly relationship between Toto Wolff and Frederic Vasseur. Wolff always promoted Vasser in Formula 2, and now this happened.”
Speaking about the rivalry between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, Marco said: “Leclerc has a speed advantage in one fast lap. However, throughout the year, Hamilton will be stronger and establish himself as a global Ferrari superstar.”
When asked if he is afraid that Mercedes will try to replace Max Verstappen in place of Hamilton, Helmut Marko said: “Toto Wolff will try to lure Max, but he will not succeed.
Max has a good memory and he has not forgotten the accusations against him from Mercedes. The accident at Silverstone in 2021 and the season finale in Abu Dhabi are good examples of this.”
