Fernando Alonso makes no secret of the fact that he has no special expectations for the upcoming Italian Grand Prix. Moreover, the two-time world champion made it clear that it is unlikely that Aston Martin’s position will change for the better in the near future, and that the task comes down to earning at least some points in each race. Then the team can stay in 5th place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Fernando Alonso: “We’ll see how it all ends, although in theory Monza is worse for us than Zanfdort, where it was difficult to fight for points. I’ll try to avoid pessimistic predictions and assume that we can still earn one or two points, but this is the maximum.
But first we have to get to work on the track and figure out how the car works. For the first practice we have made extensive plans for different types of checks. But before the next phases of the season we have a lot of work to do, and the goal remains the same. As I said in Zandvoort, it is important to continue to understand the car every weekend and try to achieve at least some improvements.
In theory, the weekend in Monza does not promise to be a success. In Zandvoort we understood that the pace we showed was the real pace of Aston Martin. This is more or less how it was in the five previous stages: our gap to the leaders is always the same. But we are trying to reduce it, so of course we will continue to modernize the car.”
