David Coulthard, former F1 driver and now popular TV commentator, praised George Russell’s work as he enters his first season as Mercedes driver and new teammate Lewis Hamilton.
In Bahrain, where Hamilton managed to take the podium, George finished fourth, in Saudi Arabia he earned points for 5th, but Coulthard believes these results are commendable, especially the not the best form in which the Mercedes team season started.
Suffice it to say that according to the results of the first two stages in the individual standings, Russell is ahead of his famous partner.
“Here’s what happened: Ferrari and Red Bull went really fast right away, but there are people who might think George did worse than he should have done in the first two races. I disagree,” The Sunday quoted him as saying. Mirror the Scot – I think he did a good job both driving this car and the situation in general.
Personally, I am very impressed with his work. George shows results that meet my expectations. In my opinion he is a great, fully prepared rider. He has speed, he knows how to communicate well and build relationships with the team. I think Russell is an example of a modern racer, a top class professional. I thought so before the start of the season and haven’t changed my mind now.
However, the honeymoon, if everything goes well and you don’t make any mistakes, will soon be over, especially if you have to finish in the top three with such a car.”
