Fortnite will release a new patch on October 31 during its ongoing Fortnitemares Halloween event.
The update could feature new content, including a long awaited gifting system for players.
The Fortnitemares event features new challenges, quests and enemies. It runs from October 23 to November 26.
New Halloween skins
Epic Games added several Halloween skins to celebrate the holiday.
The flagship addition is the reactive Deadfire skin, which changes appearance based on player performance in matches. It costs 2,000 V-Bucks.
A vampire themed Sanctum skin joins other Halloween outfits, including Arachne, Spider-Knight, Onesie and Guan-Yu.
Other available cosmetic items include the Dark Shard pickaxe and the Shackled Stone Back Bling.
Fortnitemares challenges
The event offers new quests and monsters.
Players must complete a series of Fortnitemares challenges:
- Destroy 10 Elite Cube Monsters for 500 XP
- Damage 2,500 Cube Fragments for 500 XP
- Deal 1,000 damage to Cube Monsters in a single match for 500 XP
- Visit 4 different Corrupted Areas in a single match for 500 XP
- Destroy 3 Cube Fragments for 500 XP
- Complete 14 Fortnitemares challenges for 500 XP
Players receive a Dark Engine Glider as a reward.

Rumored gifting system
Reports suggest Epic Games may introduce a system allowing players to transfer special gifts to each other in the game.
The feature was hinted at in June 2018. Data miners reportedly found evidence of a Gift Wrap tab that lets players add blue, yellow, red and purple wrapping paper to items.
Epic Games has not confirmed an official release date for the gifting system.
What is Fortnite
Fortnite is a free to play shooter published and developed by Epic Games.
The game launched in July 2017. A battle royale mode arrived in September 2017, putting 100 players in matches that combine action shooter gameplay with survival and fort building.
The game has 125 million players worldwide. It is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, MacOS and Microsoft Windows.
Fortnite topped the Google list for the most popular Halloween costume searches so far in 2018.
