Giorgos Masouras announced his farewell to Olympiacos in a social media message on August 10, 2026, as the Greek international winger prepares to join Saudi Arabian club NEOM.
In the message, Masouras said he had asked himself what a young Olympiacos fan would think if told that one day he would play for the club he supported.
A childhood dream come true
Masouras wrote that such a child would be told he would play 380 games for Olympiacos, score 57 goals, live through major European nights, and win league titles and cups. Most importantly, he said, that child would fulfill the dream of every Olympiacos supporter: winning a European trophy with the club, known to fans as the Thrylos, or Legend. He said the child would call it impossible, just a dream, and yet it happened.
He said he lived that dream from childhood to the present day, through European nights, failures and disappointments, missed chances for silverware, magical derby nights and big wins. He said the dream was present everywhere, at school, on the street, in the square, in a faded Legend shirt, and in the anticipation before every match.
Masouras recalled specific memories that guided him, including moments of magic from Giovanni, finishes from Rivaldo, and goals from Galetti, as well as the club's first away win in the Champions League. He said these moments, along with the thousands of joys and disappointments the team gave him, were always there to show him the way.
Fighting to be worthy of the shirt
He said all of it reminded him that he had to keep fighting, keep trying, and above all be worthy of the shirt. He described the road as difficult: he trained hard, cried, lost sleep out of sadness, and went through hard moments. But he said that every time he saw the red and white shirt hanging with his name on the back, he felt a shiver.
Masouras added that every time he smelled the grass at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium and walked out onto the pitch, he swelled with pride and gratitude, saying he was not just wearing a shirt but wearing a dream.
Thanking teammates and club officials
He said the most important part of his journey was the family he found along the way. He said he met teammates who became like brothers, and selfless people who fought every day for the good of the team. He said they shared joy, sadness, pressure, anxiety, wins and moments that will stay with him forever.
Masouras also thanked the club's president and all of its executives individually, saying they gave him the chance from the very first moment to make his dream come true. He thanked them for the support, the trust, and every moment they lived through together.

Masouras listed his numbers at the club: 380 games and 57 goals, along with countless moments, league titles, cups and major European nights. He gave special mention to winning a European trophy with the Thrylos, a reference to Olympiacos' UEFA Conference League triumph in 2024, calling it a dream that he would once have thought impossible but that became reality.
