Barcelona are monitoring Harry Kane's contract negotiations with Bayern Munich as the England captain holds discussions over extending his stay with the German champions.

The 33-year-old striker is giving priority to resolving his future with Bayern, where he is settled, and is understood to want a three-year contract. Discussions are currently ongoing between the player and the club regarding the length of any new deal.

Barcelona made their interest in Kane known earlier this summer, as revealed by Daily Mail Sport. The La Liga side are actively exploring options in the transfer market as Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid cling on to forward Julian Alvarez, who remains Barca's top target. Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are also keen on Kane, even as they pursue Aston Villa's England forward Ollie Watkins.

Contract status and transfer history

Kane has entered the final 12 months of the four-year contract he signed with Bayern Munich following an £86.4m transfer from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.

The England captain enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in Germany, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions. His scoring record helped Bayern, managed by former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany, complete a domestic league and cup double.

Kane on upcoming contract talks

Addressing his future, Kane confirmed that formal negotiations were scheduled to begin following his post-season break. "We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday. So I'm not sure exactly when, but they'll start this week, next week... we'll start those talks," Kane said.

The striker stressed that both he and Bayern remain relaxed about the situation despite entering the final year of his deal. "Like I've said before, we're calm, I think they're calm with the situation," he added.

"Obviously now is the time to start talking, because there's only a year left. That's important. But both sides are relaxed, and I'm pretty sure there'll be some talks this week or next week."
