Iga Świątek reached the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto by defeating Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 6-1. The former WTA ranking leader is the only remaining representative of Poland in the competition, which features the top tennis players in the world.
Świątek entered the third round after securing a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Sara Bejlek. Against Golubic, the Polish player dropped her opening service game in the first set before dominating the match by winning four consecutive games. The Swiss opponent took only one more game in the set, which Świątek won 6-2.
In the second set, Świątek won her own service game, broke Golubic, and took the third game to establish a 3-0 lead. She allowed Golubic just one game in the set to complete a 6-2, 6-1 win and advance to the 1/8 final without any problems.
