Iga Świątek will face Viktorija Golubic at the Toronto tournament on Thursday, August 6. Organizers announced the center court match will begin at 18:30.
Świątek opened the tournament in the second round against Sara Beljek. The match appeared to be heading for a 6:0, 6:0 result, but Świątek experienced trouble in the second set before winning it 6:3. This was her second victory over the Czech player this season, following a 6:2, 6:3 win at Roland Garros.
Świątek remains the only Polish player competing in singles, as Maja Chwalińska, Magda Linette and Magdalena Fręch ended their runs in the second round.
Ranking milestones
The eighth-ranked WTA player will now play Golubic, who unexpectedly defeated Donna Vekić 5:7, 6:2, 6:3. The 51st-ranked Swiss player has faced Świątek four times and lost three matches.
Their last meeting was in March 2022 in Miami. Świątek defeated Golubic to secure first place in the WTA rankings, a position she held for 125 weeks across two periods.
A victory will advance Świątek to the fourth round to play either Madison Keys or Marta Kostiuk. Sport.pl will provide live coverage of the match.
