Former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Jadson has refused to play in a Moscow farewell match for Brazilian striker Vagner Love, denying reports that he would participate in the event in Russia.
Speaking to sports website Tribuna.com, Jadson clarified that he declined the invitation from his close friend because of his respect for the Ukrainian people and his former club. Russian side CSKA Moscow had previously reported that the former Brazil international would take part in the match.
Jadson said he would not travel to the game despite his friendship with Vagner Love. He explained that while he considers Vagner Love a great friend, he understands that the current situation is far too delicate and that he must show respect to Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine.
Career records and club history
Jadson retired from club football after 2022, following a nine-match stint with Brazilian side Vitória. The Brazilian midfielder spent the defining period of his career with Ukrainian Premier League club Shakhtar Donetsk between 2005 and 2011, making 273 appearances while scoring 64 goals and providing 64 assists. Shakhtar Donetsk is one of Ukraine's top football clubs, based in the country's eastern region.
Vagner Love ended his playing career in March 2026 with Brazilian club Retrô. The striker played the bulk of his career at Russian club CSKA Moscow between 2004 and 2011, making 158 appearances for the capital team. Both players represented the Brazil national team during their careers, although not at the same time, with Vagner Love featured between 2004 and 2007 while Jadson played from 2011 to 2013.
