Bayern Munich player Jamal Musiala collapsed during a friendly match against Heidenheim on Tuesday, three days after suffering a similar incident against Leipzig. The German international was forced off just six minutes after entering the pitch as a second-half substitute.
Following the latest collapse, Musiala revealed on Instagram that doctors had diagnosed him with temporary losses of consciousness linked to a neurological dysfunction. He explained that the easily treatable condition was responsible for both recent episodes on the pitch.
Neurological diagnosis
Musiala told fans on social media that he understood why people were concerned and wanted to reassure them. He said that while the incidents might appear scary at first glance, they are currently part of his daily life.
The midfielder added that he is being monitored by top specialists and remains very optimistic about his recovery. He confirmed that both Bayern Munich and his family are supporting him, and said medical advisers have informed him that he can continue living a normal life.
Pitch collapses
During Tuesday's friendly against Heidenheim, Musiala came onto the pitch in the 61st minute but was forced off shortly afterwards. Bayern medical staff treated the player on the turf for several minutes before he stood up and walked off unassisted.
The incident followed a similar collapse on Saturday during Bayern's fixture against Leipzig. Musiala had entered that match in the 69th minute and scored his team's third goal in the 81st minute before suddenly feeling unwell and collapsing.
Teammates and medical staff rushed to assist Musiala on Saturday, treating him on the pitch for several minutes. Although he appeared somewhat disoriented, he managed to walk off the field when substituted in the 86th minute, with German media initially speculating that heat reaching 33 degrees Celsius might have caused the collapse.
Training and background
On Monday, Musiala trained individually and was absent from Bayern Munich's official team presentation. He later posted a brief update on social media to reassure supporters, stating that the most important thing was that he was fine.
Musiala is a key player for both German giants Bayern Munich and the Germany national team. Bayern, based in Bavaria, compete in the German Bundesliga alongside top-flight rivals Leipzig and Heidenheim. Despite the player walking off the pitch unassisted after both matches, the recurring collapses have raised concern across the Bavarian club.
Following medical advice, Musiala will continue living a normal life while undergoing specialist care. He remains supported by Bayern Munich and his personal circle as he continues his recovery.
