Jamie Vardy to stream live Bundesliga matches on YouTube

Free agent Jamie Vardy will take on a starring role broadcasting live Bundesliga matches on YouTube across the United Kingdom and Ireland during the 2026-27 season. The former Leicester City striker remains without a club for the new campaign, but will stay close to the pitch through the digital initiative.

The German top-flight league announced the expansion of its YouTube presence, with broadcasts anchored on Vardy's personal channel, titled Jamie Vardy's Having a Party.

Vardy's channel will broadcast live seven Friday evening Bundesliga fixtures throughout the season. The coverage aims to offer supporters a different viewing experience by allowing fans to write and share their opinions directly through live YouTube comments.

Friday night broadcasts and audience strategy

The streaming initiative launched with the opening match of the Bundesliga season between Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart. The remaining six fixtures scheduled for broadcast on the channel will be announced as the season progresses.

The Bundesliga is Germany's top professional football league, featuring prominent European clubs. Bayern Munich stands as the dominant power in German football, having secured numerous domestic league titles, while VfB Stuttgart remains one of the country's historical top-flight sides.

German league officials established the partnership as part of a broader strategy to reach younger football audiences. By utilizing alternative digital platforms and teaming up with figures who hold a strong connection to supporters, the league aims to broaden its international footprint.

Production partnership and executive reaction

Live production for the broadcasts will be handled by Workerbee, a television and digital content production company that forms part of the Banijay Entertainment group. Vardy will be joined during the streams by guest figures drawn from the worlds of both football and entertainment.

Rick Murray, the chief executive officer of Workerbee, said fans no longer simply wanted to watch football. He explained that supporters now wanted to experience matches together with people they already knew and trusted.

Workerbee is an established UK production company known for factual and entertainment programming. Its parent group, Banijay Entertainment, is one of the world's largest independent media content creators and distributors, overseeing extensive international production operations.

Vardy's status and English football legacy

German league organizers noted that the selection of Vardy was a deliberate choice rather than a random decision. The former Leicester forward has built a reputation as one of the most recognizable figures in English football over recent years.

Vardy rose to global prominence during Leicester City's historic Premier League title-winning campaign in the 2015-16 season. Known for his explosive speed and clinical finishing, he scored in 11 consecutive Premier League matches to break the competition record, inspiring the popular fan chant that gives his YouTube channel its name.

The Bundesliga is seeking to leverage the personality and high-level experience of a player who competed at the pinnacle of English football. Through this collaboration, organizers aim to deliver viewers a more direct, football-focused perspective on German league action.
