Assistant coach Joaquin Gomez Blasco has left Pogoń Szczecin by mutual consent after spending just one month at the Polish club, according to media reports. Tomasz Włodarczyk of the Meczyki.pl portal reported on his X profile that the Spaniard has already said goodbye to the squad, ending his brief spell working under head coach Oscar Garcia.
Pogoń Szczecin started their Ekstraklasa campaign with a 0:1 loss to Legia Warsaw before earning victories against Cracovia (2:0) and Motor Lublin (3:1). The Portowcy currently sit third in the league standings after three rounds, trailing leader Lech Poznań and second-placed Legia Warsaw by one point. Pogoń has a bye in the next round of fixtures and will play its next match against Wisła Kraków on Aug. 23.
Coaching career background
Gomez Blasco has held positions at five separate clubs since the start of 2025. He coached Borneo FC from Jan. 16, 2025, to June 1, 2025, before taking charge of Cypriot team Anorthosis in July, where he worked until September. He then managed Kachanburi from October to November 2025, and spent six months coaching Spanish side Gimnastica Segoviana FC prior to joining Pogoń Szczecin.
The 40-year-old gathered early coaching experience as an assistant at English clubs Brighton, Derby, Luton, and Stoke City. He also worked with the Finnish youth national team for just over a year before his recent managerial moves.
