Jorge Martín secured his first pole position at Silverstone with a lap record of 1:56.160 in qualifying for the British MotoGP on Saturday.
The World Championship leader took advantage of Aprilia's speed to top the Q2 session. His time was nearly a full second faster than the previous circuit record set by Fabio Quartararo in 2025. The lap also improved on the pace set on Friday by his teammate, Marco Bezzecchi.
Martín, nicknamed "Martinator," displayed the explosiveness that had marked his earlier performances. After losing some speed since taking the lead in the standings, he delivered a dominant performance in Great Britain to earn first place on the grid for both Saturday's Sprint and Sunday's race.
Aprilia front row lockout
Aprilia dominated the qualifying session after placing four bikes in the top five during Friday practice. The result marked the manufacturer's second front row sweep in the last three Grand Prix races.
Marc Márquez had warned earlier that Aprilia would perform strongly at Silverstone. Raúl Fernández finished second, narrowly missing pole position, while Trackhouse teammate Ai Ogura took third to complete the front row.
Ducati rider results
Di Giannantonio finished as the fastest Ducati rider in fourth position. Marco Bezzecchi placed fifth for Aprilia, ahead of Marc Márquez in sixth place.
Márquez was improving his lap time on his final attempt before encountering a problem in the final sector that ruined his lap. The result left Márquez in the final spot on the second row of the grid.
Márquez acknowledged that Silverstone suits the Aprilia bikes better than his own and is not one of his strongest tracks. From sixth on the grid, he stated he will focus on collecting as many points as possible.
