Marco Bezzecchi broke the all-time lap record at Silverstone during Friday afternoon practice for MotoGP on his return from a collarbone injury. The Italian rider set a lap time of 1:56.280, lowering the previous circuit record of 1:57.233 established in 2025 by Fabio Quartararo on a Yamaha by nearly a second.
Bezzecchi had warned on Thursday during media day that he was not at 100 percent following surgery on his fractured left collarbone. He said he needed to test himself during his return to action after sustaining the injury prior to the summer break. He resolved his doubts on a circuit where he won the long race last year.
Aprilia Domination in Practice
Italian motorcycles produced a dominant performance at Silverstone on Friday afternoon, placing four riders in the top five. Bezzecchi led an Aprilia group that included Raúl Fernández, Jorge Martín, and Ai Ogura. Fabio Di Giannantonio was the only rider to break that Aprilia monopoly in the top five.
Brothers Marc Márquez and Álex Márquez finished in sixth and seventh place. Marc Márquez built up his speed gradually through the afternoon, as he typically does during race weekends. Álex Márquez was fastest in the morning session, demonstrating the form he showed prior to his crash at Montmeló.
Márquez Strategy and Weekend Favorites
Marc Márquez, who rides with number 93, had warned in the pre-event build-up that Aprilia bikes would be very fast at Silverstone. He also noted that the English circuit does not suit him particularly well, stating his objective was to achieve the best possible result before a two-week break prior to Motorland, where he has always been very fast.
Following Friday's practice results, Aprilia riders and Bezzecchi in particular are considered the favorites for pole position and the Sprint race on Saturday.
