Marseille winger Keyliane Abdallah scored his first professional goal on Friday as Olympique de Marseille began their Ligue 1 season with a 4-0 victory over RC Strasbourg at the Stade Vélodrome.

The 20-year-old forward entered the match late in the second half and needed just seven minutes to make his mark. In the 89th minute, Abdallah pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area and struck a left-footed shot past Strasbourg goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen to net Marseille's third goal of the evening.
Marseille dominated the 2026-2027 season opener against a Strasbourg side that played much of the contest with ten men. Amine Gouiri scored twice for the hosts, while midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was also on the scoresheet in the convincing home win.
Olympique de Marseille, one of the most successful clubs in French football history, play their home matches at the Stade Vélodrome. Ligue 1 is the top flight of professional football in France.
A family tradition twenty years in the making
Keyliane Abdallah was born in Marseille on April 5, 2006, and originally hails from the French overseas department of Mayotte. He developed through Marseille's youth academy before spending time on loan with Spanish third-division side Gimnàstic de Tarragone.
Twenty years before Abdallah scored his debut goal, his uncle Toifilou Maoulida was playing as a striker for Marseille. Maoulida, now 47, represented Marseille between 2006 and 2007 during a senior career that included spells at Montpellier, Lens, Bastia, and Nîmes.
On April 11, 2006, six days after Abdallah was born, Maoulida opened the scoring for Marseille in a 2-1 Coupe de France quarter-final win against rivals Lyon. Known as the man with the headbands for his signature celebrations, Maoulida pulled out a hidden cloth strip from inside his shin guard to reveal a handwritten message welcoming his newborn nephew Keyliane to the world.
Reactions and future prospects
Following Friday's victory, Maoulida celebrated his nephew's milestone on social media platform X. Posting a message of support, he expressed how proud he was of Abdallah and added a lighthearted tag asking what had become of the famous headband.
The connection also caught the attention of football social media account MeteoFoot Maps on X, which highlighted that the infant welcomed by Maoulida two decades ago was the same player who scored at the Vélodrome on Friday night.
Speaking in the mixed zone after the match, Abdallah said that coming through the club's academy and being born in Marseille made the moment extra special. He added that for a native of the city, scoring at the Vélodrome in front of his parents was the ultimate outcome he could have wished for.
Abdallah described his debut goal as a dream come true, but emphasized that the hard work was only just starting and that he intended to remain fully focused. With Marseille facing a delicate squad situation heading into the new campaign, the young attacker could earn regular playing opportunities in the first team this season.
