Toulouse FC have signed Danish midfielder Thomas Jørgensen from Viborg on a four-year contract worth up to 9 million euros, the French Ligue 1 club announced on Wednesday, August 19.

The 20-year-old playmaker has committed his future to the French side until June 2030. Toulouse paid an initial transfer fee of 7.5 million euros to secure Jørgensen from the Danish club, with an additional 1.5 million euros included in performance-related bonuses, according to local press reports.
The acquisition marks the end of a long summer pursuit for Toulouse president Olivier Cloarec and sporting director Viktor Bezhani. The transfer was financed in part by a substantial payout received from the departure of forward Emersonn, with club management placing heavy expectations on the incoming midfielder.
Record transfer fee of the RedBird era
The financial package makes Jørgensen the second most expensive signing in the history of Toulouse FC and the highest transfer fee spent by the club under the ownership of American investment firm RedBird Capital Partners.
Jørgensen's fee surpasses the previous RedBird-era transfer record held jointly by Norwegian winger Aron Donnum, who arrived from Standard Liège in 2023 for 4.5 million euros plus 2 million euros in bonuses, and English defender Charlie Cresswell, who was signed from Leeds United that same year for 4.5 million euros.
The transfer fee is surpassed in Toulouse history only by French forward Wesley Saïd. Under former club president Olivier Sadran, Toulouse paid a fixed fee of 8 million euros to sign Saïd from Dijon in 2019, before selling him to Lens two years later following 25 appearances.
Four months of scouting and international competition
Toulouse had been tracking Jørgensen for more than four months prior to the completion of the deal. According to Danish sources, the French club first registered their interest in April 2026, working to convince the midfielder despite competing interest from clubs in Germany, England, and the Netherlands.
Negotiations briefly faltered toward the end of July when a potential transfer appeared to move further away, but Toulouse executives renewed their efforts to complete the agreement. The solid left-footed midfielder, who stands 1.84 metres tall, has been assigned the number 8 shirt at the Stadium de Toulouse.
Player profile and statistical impact
Jørgensen moves to France following a successful campaign in Denmark, where he recorded five goals and nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for Viborg. His performances earned him his first call-up to Denmark's senior national team in June 2026, though he did not make an appearance during that international window.
The transfer reinforces Toulouse's recent focus on recruiting from Scandinavian leagues, a strategy that previously brought players such as Mikkel Desler, Warren Kamanzi, and Isak Pettersson to the club.
Danish connection and summer recruitment
At Toulouse, Jørgensen joins two fellow countrymen: team captain Rasmus Nicolaisen and newly appointed head coach Jens Berthel Askou. He becomes the fifth new signing of the summer transfer window for les Violets.
The club had previously added defender Ismaïl Diallo on a free transfer from Dijon, midfielder Christ Tapé from AC Horsens, 18-year-old Swedish winger Sion Oppong from Brommapojkarna, and defender David Odogu on loan from AC Milan.
Head coach Askou is preparing Toulouse for the start of their Ligue 1 season following a pre-season schedule that concluded with a friendly loss against Hamburg. Ahead of Saturday's season opener at home against Lyon, Askou said everyone at the club shared the same dream of returning to European competition.
