Former undefeated UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov said time is running out for Russian fighter Islam Makhachev to become the greatest fighter in UFC history. Speaking to Red Corner MMA, Nurmagomedov said Makhachev still has an opportunity, but time has begun to slip away.
Nurmagomedov explained that an athlete can still compete in the heavyweight division at age 38 because former reaction speed is not required. However, he noted that age takes its toll in lighter weight classes, making a fighter at age 38 a completely different athlete.
UFC 330 title fight
Makhachev currently tops the UFC pound for pound rankings. Across his professional mixed martial arts career, the Russian athlete has fought 29 bouts and earned 28 victories.
Makhachev is scheduled to meet Irishman Ian Garry in Philadelphia on August 16 at UFC 330 for the organization's welterweight championship title. The fight is expected to start around 06:00 Moscow time, following Makhachev's earlier complaints about the quality of equipment during his training before the bout.
