Peru's Liga 1 released updated Torneo Clausura standings on Friday, September 4, 2026, with Alianza Lima, Universitario de Deportes and Deportivo Garcilaso all fighting to stay in contention as the eighth matchday of the tournament got underway.
The battle for the Torneo Clausura title is tightly contested, and clubs cannot afford a slip in matchday 8, which was scheduled to run from Friday, September 4, to Sunday, September 6. Alianza Lima needed a win away to Juan Pablo II in Chongoyape, while Universitario looked for a home victory to remain at the top of the standings.
Deportivo Garcilaso, who share the lead with Universitario, were set to face Atlético Grau at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega stadium. Sport Boys, meanwhile, aimed to cause an upset away in the city of Huancayo.
Alianza Lima and Universitario de Deportes are among Peru's most decorated clubs and have long been rivals for the country's biggest domestic honours. The Torneo Clausura is the second of two tournaments that make up the Liga 1 season, alongside the Torneo Apertura.
