The result handed Tottenham Hotspur their second defeat of the season and secured a first Premier League victory for Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle. Spurs had started slowly before building offensive momentum after 20 minutes with slick passing, but Newcastle held firm in defence before delivering a clinical performance after the interval.

Second half clinical strikes
Newcastle United opened the scoring when right-back Amar Dedic connected with a header following a 40-yard crossfield pass from midfielder Nico Gonzalez. Dedic found Anthony Elanga, who took the ball on his left foot and produced an exquisite finish into the bottom corner. Elanga, who had earlier rounded Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky without being able to poke the ball home, scored for the second consecutive weekend.
Ten minutes later, Newcastle doubled their lead when Lewis Hall delivered a pinpoint corner into the penalty area. Yoane Wissa reacted with an acrobatic finish to seal the three points for the visitors. Wissa had previously made intelligent runs throughout the match, including a first-half break that was thwarted by a last-ditch tackle from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven.
