Nijmegen suffered a 1-2 home defeat against Telstar in the opening match of the Dutch championship, days before hosting Olympiacos in Champions League qualifying. The host team made lineup changes following a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Karaiskakis.
Brouwer opened the scoring for Telstar in the first minute of play. Mendes doubled the lead for the visitors in the 24th minute. Sierhuis reduced the deficit to 1-2 in the 83rd minute off an assist from Tadic, but Nijmegen could not equalize.

The home lineup featured Cretaz, Pereira, Njemasic, Fonville, Bischoff, Ouaisa, Hansen-Aaroen, Monteiro, Lebreton, Chery, and Tadic. Sierhuis substituted for Njemasic at minute 46.
