Oleksandr Usyk Names Top Five Boxers Ahead of Final Fight

Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk has named Terence Crawford, Shakur Stevenson, Saul Alvarez, Anthony Joshua, and Tyson Fury as his top five modern fighters, media outlet Jus Due Boxing reported.

The 39-year-old heavyweight champion noted that his list included two rivals, Joshua and Fury, whom he has defeated twice each in world title bouts.

Usyk last appeared in the ring on May 23 this year, securing an early victory over Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven. Following that contest, the Ukrainian vacated all of his world title belts, though he explained that the decision did not signal the end of his professional career.

Negotiations for a final bout

Usyk confirmed that he has one last dance remaining in boxing and intends to compete at least once more. After an extended break from training, he recently returned to the gym. Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is currently viewed as his most likely next opponent.

Discussions are underway for what would be the final contest of Usyk's career, according to statements made by his team director, Serhiy Lapin, to Ukrainian news agency UNIAN. Lapin confirmed that initial contact has occurred with representatives of Wilder and promotional company Zuffa Boxing.

Lapin emphasized that no formal agreement has been reached yet. He added that securing Usyk would represent a mark of quality for Zuffa Boxing, as the Ukrainian's presence would instantly elevate the status of their heavyweight belt.

Single fight before retirement

In an interview with BBC Sport, Usyk rejected media speculation regarding multi-fight deals. He stated that there is no possibility of arranging three or five future bouts, confirming he is preparing solely for a single final appearance.

Usyk relinquished the championship belts he won in his rematch against British heavyweight Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian fighter stated that once his final bout is completed, he will thank everyone who supported him and officially announce his retirement from boxing.
